Our gadget insurance team has put together our roundup of the best student laptop deals for 2022, as well as a special offer for our student laptop insurance.
As anyone that has attended university knows, student life isn’t cheap. At loveit coverit we often see claims coming in for various gadgets that have experienced the “student lifestyle” and could do with some tlc. Student laptops are no exception, so along with student laptop insurance to protect your device against student life, we have also compiled this article to help save you from spending too much of your student loan on that all essential laptop.
If battery life is the selling point for you, then the Apple MacBook Air M1 is a great choice. The M1 chip has been a game-changer for Apple and, on top of that, the 18-hour battery life is almost unbeatable. That’s especially the case if you consider how thin and light this laptop is.
Luckily, this MacBook Air also comes with the new and improved Magic Keyboard. While MacBooks used to have problems with the old Butterfly Keyboard, Apple fixed the issues in this newer model. And that’s great news for students! You’ll need a good keyboard, especially when taking lecture notes or writing long essays. While Apple products always have a certain price tag, the fantastic features that come with this laptop make it one of the best laptops for students.
When we last saw the Acer Swift 3 in July 2020, it was an ultraportable laptop packing a 13.5-inch display with a boxy 3:2 aspect ratio that made us declare it was hip to be square. The 2021 edition of the Swift 3 (starts at £799 as tested) reverses course with a 14-inch screen that features the more common and rectangular 16:9 ratio, and it has us pining for last year’s taller view and reduced scrolling. If you don’t mind the wider display (or expressly want it because you watch a lot of movies on your laptop), there’s a lot to like about the new Swift 3, from its all-metal chassis and Thunderbolt 4 support to its luxuriously long battery life and reasonable price.
The first thing you notice about the Lenovo IdeaPad 3i is that it’s very light. At just 1.6kg (3.5lbs), it feels like it doesn’t weigh anything at all. And you certainly wouldn’t think twice about slipping it in your bag on the way to work, the gym or your local cafe. It’s not too small, though: at just over 32 x 24cm, just under 0.8 inches (2cm) thick and with a 14-inch screen, it’s a decent size for both work and fun.
A sticker on the keyboard proclaims this is a ‘stylish design’, and we can’t disagree. Particularly when the lid is closed, this looks not dissimilar to some laptops that are far more expensive, thanks to the brushed metal effect. The illusion is only broken when you touch it, and it becomes immediately clear that this is plastic. Onlookers won’t know that, though, and if outward appearances are important to you, then that does count for something.
