Apps make our lives easier whether it’s learning how to cook, taking photos or finding a date. There are so many different apps out there that it is hard to find the best. We created six categories and chose three best apps for each. Check it out!
Netflix – probably the most popular video streaming service in the market. You can find many TV Shows, popular movies and Netflix Originals (oh, they’re really good) on here. The choice of films varies slightly from region to region. The standard tariff costs £8.99 while the premium is £11.99. The basic subscription costs £5.99. Available on both iOS and Android.
Prime Video – video streaming service with thousands of TV Shows and Movies, including Prime Originals. You can watch live sports on the app as well. It costs £7.99 a month, but you get your first month free (or six months if you’re a student). Available on both iOS and Android.
Popcornflix – Free Movie App, which can be downloaded on iOS, Android and Kindle. They have a good selection of films, but you won’t find the newest releases on there. They have Popcornflix specials with movies created especially for the site.
Map My Fitness – features support for hundreds of different activities and exercises, including running, swimming and cycling. You can learn about new running/cycling routes from other app users and set your own goals. The app is free and available for Android and iOS users.
Freeletics – this app focuses on exercises which don’t require any equipment and means – no expensive gym membership fees for you. You can do the exercises everywhere, customize the sessions and have audio/video guidance to make sure you are doing the exercises right. The app is free and available for iOS and Android users.
Nike Training Club – In this app you can find workouts targeted at particular muscle groups. The app also helps you to improve your performance in different sports and activities. The workout lengths vary from 15-45 minutes and are approachable for everyone starting from a total beginner to a professional. Next to great workouts, Nike Training Club offers tips for general wellness, nutrition and mindfulness.
Soundcloud – this app allows you to listen to music offline, ad-free, record sounds and upload them on your account. You have access to over 150 million songs and podcasts. The app is available for both iOS and Android and is free of charge.
Spotify – this app allows you to listen to millions of tracks, podcasts and episodes online or offline (you’ll need a subscription to listen to anything offline). You can connect the same account to your phone, tablet, car, even your TV. The premium version of Spotify costs £9.99 a month (you get 3 months free) and the family premium version (6 different accounts) costs only £14.99 a month (also 3 months free).
Deezer – it is pretty much the same deal as with Spotify and Soundcloud, just with less known brand name. You can listen to music online and offline, but might be that you won’t be able to find some less popular songs on there. The premium version costs £9.99 and the family version costs £14.99.
Spectre – you can shoot breath-taking long exposure shots with this app. Behind the scenes the app stitches together multiple photos to achieve the best final product. You can make people disappear from a photo, draw light trails and capture waves and fountains with ghostly water. It is available for iOS only and costs £2.99.
Snapseed – this app is a free photo editor with features of a premium app. You have loads of options whether you want to quickly apply a filter to a photo or create a truly professional picture. You can also save your combination of adjustments and use it on other pictures later on. This app is available for both iOS and Android.
VSCO – This app extends further than photo-editing and has its own community sharing features, that allows you to share your images and connect with other budding photographers. You take photos in-app, with the ability to focus and set exposure before you shoot. It’s got all the basic photo-editing tools, with some added extras, including horizontal and vertical perspective and a variety of highlight and shadow adjustment tools. The basic version of the app is free, while the year membership costs £19.99.
Bumble – women rule on Bumble. In heterosexual matches this app requires women to message first and if the guy doesn’t message back within 24 hours, the match is lost. You don’t necessarily have to look for a lover, you can also find a bestie on this app. Bumble is free and available on both iOS and Android.
Tinder – probably the most-known dating platform. Whether you’re looking for a long term relationship or just a fling, you can find it here. Just swipe right if you like the person and his/hers short bio or swipe left if you don’t. If you like someone who also likes you, you get the chance to write them a message and get to know each other better.
OkCupid – profiles on this dating app are more in-depth and you have to answer series of questions in order for OkCupid to create your match/enemy percentage ratio on others’ profiles. You can send a message to someone you like without matching with them, but they will only see the message if they match with you. The app is free and available for both iOS and Android.
Money Dashboard – with the help of this app you can see all your accounts and assets in one place, including current, savings accounts and credit cards. You can plan your budget and set limits of how much you want to spend in a month. You can then analyse and see where your money is spent and understand whether your goals and set limits are achievable. This platform currently supports 60 financial providers including high-street banks. This app is free to download for Android and iOS users.
Yolt – this app allows you to view your current account, savings and credit cards in one place. It sends information about your spending habits and identifies your major expenses. You can also manage bills and subscriptions through the app. The app also offers a comparison service to help you find a better deal on many services/subscriptions.
Moneyhub – similarly to Money Dashboard, this app brings all your financial accounts in one place. You can also add investment funds here. You can set spending goals and analyse your purchasing habits to see where you spend the most/least. If you have subscriptions or regular payments for something, for example, phone insurance, Moneyhub will send you an alert if there are better deals available on the market. You can also get professional advice about your finances over the phone from a professional adviser. It costs £0.99 a month or £9.99 yearly for Android users and £14.99 for iOS.
