The Steam Deck boasts a 7-inch IPS LCD screen with a resolution of 1,280 by 800 pixels, making it slightly higher than the Nintendo Switch’s screen. With a refresh rate of 60Hz, the screen is bright and easy to read, though it doesn’t offer the same level of color vibrancy as an OLED screen.

Under the hood, the Steam Deck is powered by a custom AMD processor with a quad-core, eight-thread Zen 2 CPU and an RDNA 2 GPU. While these components use a similar architecture to AMD’s Ryzen CPUs and Radeon GPUs, they don’t have exact consumer counterparts. While it may not be as powerful as the PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X in TFlops, the Steam Deck was designed to push fewer pixels primarily and has been extensively tested for its performance in games. It performs better than laptops with integrated graphics, but it can’t compete with high-end dedicated GPUs like the Nvidia RTX GeForce 3050 Ti.

In terms of storage and memory, the Steam Deck comes with 16GB of LPDDR5 RAM and offers a choice of 64GB, 256GB, or 512GB of storage on a PCIe Gen 2 x4 m.2 SSD (depending on the model). It also has a microSD card slot for additional storage expansion.

Can I get insurance on my Steam Deck?

Our comprehensive Steam Deck insurancecovers damages and malfunctions that are not included in the Valve warranty. To be eligible for coverage, your device must be less than 36 months old at the start of the policy and must be accompanied by a valid proof of purchase from a UK VAT-registered company. Please note that if your device exceeds the age limit or if you are unable to provide proof of purchase, your claim will not be valid. Yes, but all mobile phones or tablets must be purchased from a VAT registered UK supplier within the last 36 months (from the policy start date).

Unless specifically stated otherwise, your mobile phone will be covered by your home insurance policy if you lose or break it in the property, or if it’s stolen from your home. That is often the extent of mobile phone insurance though – it won’t feature airtime abuse or accessory cover, for example

If you’re travelling outside of the UK, personal belongings should be covered under your travel insurance policy. However, this may only be against theft or circumstantial loss i.e. if it’s lost during airport handling. Most travel insurers won’t protect your device against damage, and may only cover you to a certain amount for electronic goods. To make extra sure that your device is protected whilst travelling, it’s a good idea to get dedicated insurance with worldwide cover, so no matter where you are, you’ll be protected against loss, theft, and damage.
