Annual Travel Insurance – The perfect option if you’re planning 2+ trips per year

Let’s face it, the subject of annual travel insurance isn’t going to set your enthusiasm sky high, after all, no one wants to think about what may go wrong – surely it’ll all work out just fine, right?

We don’t want to sound like prophets of doom here but without the right cover, you may be left seriously out of pocket, even stranded in a strange place – and that’s not fun at all!

Yet, with so many annual travel insurance policies to choose from, it’s easy to feel like your head’s in a spin, especially if you’re unfamiliar with this type of cover.

So, let us clear up any confusion by answering some common questions below…

What is annual travel insurance?

Annual travel insurance gives you the same type of cover as single trip travel insurance, except it covers multiple trips over a predetermined 12 month period. If you take 2 or more trips annually, it can work out cheaper, not to mention save you the hassle of sorting out your insurance each time you go away.

You can get annual multi-trip insurance to cover European travel, Worldwide travel or Worldwide travel excluding USA, so as long as you know where you’re heading, you shouldn’t have too much trouble deciding.

Once you have a policy in place, you can tuck it away safe in the knowledge that your holidays, or business trips, are covered for the year ahead – phew!

As well as the basics of a standard travel insurance policy, an annual insurance policy will also offer you personal liability cover, single item cover as well as protection from the loss or theft of personal money, including holiday money. For the full cover details, always check your policy wording.

If you know which activities you intend to take part in, and are confident your plans over the next 12 months will not alter, then arranging one policy could make life a whole lot easier.

Likewise, if you are the spontaneous type and enjoy the freedom of booking last minute holidays or city breaks, then already having an annual travel insurance policy in place gives you one less thing to worry about.

Making a claim and managing your policy nowadays is simple, particularly at loveitcoverit. After all, we wouldn’t want to add stress to an already stressful situation. Perhaps keep our emergency contact number in your jacket just in case you need it, just don’t lose your jacket!

What's the Best Travel Insurance Cover for You?

You sure can! Most insurers offer different cover levels all tied up in pretty packages, such as Bronze (the most basic), Silver and Gold (the most inclusive) cover levels. The key thing is to work out exactly what you need cover for and go from there. As a rule, the higher the premium the lower the excess. loveit coverit Travel Insurance
has 3 levels of cover - Essential, Plus and Premium, going from least comprehensive to most.

It’s common nature to make a beeline for the cheapest quote but ask yourself if you can afford to pay the excess should you make a claim. You might instead prefer to go premium for lower excess and greater peace of mind.

Compare and contrast the different policy details available to make sure you are getting the best value for money and have protection for what’s most important to you i.e. valuables, pre-paid charges, disruptions and delayed or cancelled flights.

Take care when choosing a policy and don’t get bitten by more than just bugs. For example, you might already be insured for items such as your smartphone through your mobile network or bank account and who wants to pay for cover twice? Be a wise owl and dig through your paperwork first before you make a commitment.

How much does travel insurance cost for a year?

The cost of your cover will be dependent on several factors including your age, where you are travelling to, and if you have any pre-existing health conditions.

It’s worth taking the time to get a quote for annual insurance tailored to your needs. After all, a 25 year old with no pre-existing health conditions can expect a lower premium compared to a 55 year old with a severe heart condition.

Travelling exclusively around Europe will naturally be cheaper than hopping to the US one minute and Asia the next. Worldwide cover compared to European cover can sometimes be double the cost and there is no point paying double if you are only going to Germany – unless you are just a bit quirky like that.

You can determine where your policy starts from so there is also little sense in starting a policy from 1st May if you are not planning your next trip until much later in the year. So, to avoid throwing money away on insurance you’re not using, try to get the timing just right.

It’s also worth noting that many insurer’s vying for your custom often throw a couple of extra months’ cover for free, which is a great excuse to squeeze in another sun-soaked getaway if you’re feeling extravagant.

What is the best annual travel insurance?

Annual travel insurance should be flexible and fuss-free, so you need to consider the nature of the trips you are taking and whether any additional cover is needed. Your priorities might change so it’s worth reviewing your cover on a regular basis and updating where necessary.

The key benefits of taking out a multi-trip travel policy is that they often have unlimited or extremely high levels of medical cover, ensuring you can receive emergency treatment if you need it along with rehabilitation and repatriation.

Other perks of taking an annual policy out is, many providers will let you automatically renew your policy after the 12 month term is up – sometimes giving you a discount to say thank you.

Extra incentives can include discounts for groups or children, cover for accidents, cover for a loss of passports or tickets along with essential dental work (never bite into a pineapple, trust us).

Annual insurance is easy to customise. Travelling in couples, as a family, or in groups? It might be worth looking at products that cover everyone together under one policy.
Think about the types of excursions you might do whilst you are away too and factor these in. loveit coverit allows you to customise your policy online in our customer portal, so there is no need for you to email or call.

Many insurers also include additional cover relating to Covid-19 and offer you additional protection should you become unwell abroad or if there is a change in which travel corridors are permitted. Due to the ever changing situation, it’s a good idea to keep informed and get confident on what you can expect from your cover.

How long can I travel for with an annual travel insurance policy?

There’s usually no limit on the number of trips you take over the course of 12 months, however there is usually a cap on the duration of each trip.

Most standard annual travel insurance policies allow for trips that do not exceed 31 days (like our Essential and Plus policies). Again, the higher the premium you are paying, the more generous this cap is, however it’s rare for it to exceed 60 days at one time. Our Premium Policy allows one trip length to be up to 45 days.

Remember, your policy is also valid for UK holidays but insurers will usually impose a minimum distance from your home for the policy to remain valid.
